Welcome To My City Blog: What's the ISH, Savannah?

Updated: Oct 25, 2020

New Restaurants, Who Dis?

If you have not already realized, the food scene in Savannah has recently exploded in the most magical assortment of deliciousness and excitement. There are so many new and amazing places to check out, it’s almost impossible to decide which ones to share with you all first! But, have no fear, I’ve narrowed it down to three for this week. This is solely based on my three of my top favorite food groups: pizza, tacos and BBQ. The FDA has yet to recognize these as food groups, but once they see the importance of them, I’m sure that will change. Grab your empty stomachs and let’s welcome our newest foodie friends to Savannah! *Public Service Announcement* I have not actually dined at any of these marvelous eateries YET, however, I assure you, next post, I’ll have my detailed reviews for your entertainment!

Squirrels Pizza

What do you get when you combine pecan wood fired pizza, a hint of an old speak easy environment, and quirky décor that includes squirrels dressed in dapper attire? The answer? Squirrel’s Pizza! Conveniently located at the 2218 Bull Street in the Starland District, this place is surely not going to disappoint. What could any of us ever want more in life than a perfectly cooked pizza, a gorgeous marble counter top and sparkling mirrored bar with a plentiful selection of spirits, all the while being surrounded by friendly faces in one of the newest and up and coming areas in the city? Nothing, unless they would allow my dogs to eat with me, that might just seal the deal. They open daily at 11am, and I have added them to my calendar of activities for this weekend, so look out for a full review next week! Get squirrelly here: Squirrels Pizza

Taco Stache

I mustache you a question, but I’ll shave it for later! Ok, I’m done with the corny jokes, for now. But, let me introduce you to our newest friends to crash the food scene in Pooler, Taco Stache! Now, I used to live in the apartments in the Savannah Quarters area, and I will admit, the constant construction was such a nuisance. This thought quickly disappeared once I realized how many fantastic new restaurants would be incorporated into this little slice of Pooler heaven. Gazing at the Stache menu, I can already see that the toughest decision of my lifetime may be deciding what to eat! The menu is full of a superb variety of options for carnivores and herbivores alike! Plus, the margarita menu is sure to make a few of you squeal with delight. Alright, let me be a nosy pepper, and get jalapeño business for a minute: GO CHECK THEM OUT! The Taco Stache

Savannah Smokehouse

Reason #1 why I will absolutely love this place, their slogan is on point: “Dang Good BBQ Joint.” Our new friends located on 16 W State Street describe themselves as “a fast casual, counter-service style barbeque restaurant, serving the best smoked meats in downtown Savannah.” After studying the menu, I think it would be difficult to find any faults with this bold and welcomed statement. All meats are smoked in house daily, “low and sloooooow” as they say, and well, if they need an official taste tester, daily, I 100% volunteer as tribute! Hopefully the odds are ever in my favor. Plus, have I mentioned the décor? Our new friends have converted an old row home into a beautiful and classic venue. The exposed brick is enough to entice me inside! Not to be overlooked, the beer and drink menu is equally as impressive, featuring some of my all time must try beers: RJ Rocker’s Son of a Peach, Red Hare SPF 50/50 and yes, even Natural Light Naturdays! I’m sure this drink menu will change seasonally, but I give the summer selections two thumbs up. Feelin’ a little saucy? Head on over to their website! Savannah Smokehouse
